MSA Senator Evan Wood won the election for Speaker Wednesday, replacing outgoing Speaker Amanda Shelton for the next term.
The other nominee for Speaker, freshman Jake Sloan, needed a two-thirds Senate vote to suspend a rule saying that any Speaker must have more than two semesters of MSA experience.
Despite getting the vote, Sloan narrowly lost to Wood 22 to 18 in the election.
Backed by MSA President Tim Noce and Shelton, Wood pledged to reform MSA’s image.
His term will start in two weeks, when Shelton will step down.
