Since its revitalization in 2009, KCOU News has strived for originality. The department offers the Columbia area’s only drive-time newscast, and it is the MU campus’s only source for live news. With our ability to report breaking news, we offer a service no other student organization can match.

The flagship program of the news department is “The Pulse,” which airs Monday through Friday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Our reporters specialize in MU and local issues, and we cover all Missouri Students Association and Columbia City Council meetings. We team with Missouri Digital News for news from Jefferson City, and the MU Campus Weather Service produces original forecasts for every newscast, complete with student weathercasters.

Since the majority of our listeners tune in on the roads, The Pulse offers traffic and weather reports every ten minutes; our department also provides listeners with short news updates at the top of each hour from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Our reporters do not simply rehash press releases or cover mundane events– we report, in every sense of the word. When two students vandalized the campus’s Black Culture Center with cotton balls in a racially-charged event in 2010, our reporters were all over it. And when a fire ravaged Ellis Library on campus, our coverage reached the public faster than any other news organization on campus.

Please join us from 4:30 to 5:30 each weekday to hear unique reporting and a fresh voice from our dedicated team of reporters.
