Columbia’s newest mayor, Bob McDavid, was sworn in Tuesday night in a special ceremony at City Hall. Third and Fourth Ward Councilmen Gary Kespohl and Darryl Dudley joined McDavid at the swearing-in.

Outgoing council members Karl Skala and Jerry Wade spoke before the new members were sworn in. They both said they will stay involved in local government.

Skala even told the Columbia Missourian that he’ll still hold office hours.

The departure of former mayor Darwin Hindman was more celebratory. Unlike Skala and Wade, Hindman decided to retire on his own after 15 years.

Former mayor Bob Smith drew laughs from the crowd when he invited Hindman to the “ex-Mayor club.”

Councilwoman Barbara Hoppe unveiled plans for a garden named after Hindman at Stephens Lake Park.

McDavid says he’ll use Hindman as a resource.
