By: Matt Swing
With all hope lost, Mizzou volleyball fans started filing out of the Hearnes Center only part of the way through the third set. The Tigers already trailed two sets and, on top of that, were down 11-2 in the third set against the ninth-ranked team in the nation, the Florida Gators. Little did these fans know of the comeback that was about to take place.
Mizzou kept it close in the first two sets and losing only 25-22 and 25-20, the Tigers got themselves into a hole going into the pivotal third set. Despite how close the match was in the first two sets, the Tigers found themselves in quite the hole at the start of the third set, falling into an 11-2 deficit early on. However, the Tigers came roaring back and went on a 23-10 run that was good enough to force a fourth set.
With all the momentum in their favor, Mizzou took control in the next two sets. Winning 25-20 in the fourth set, the Tigers tied up the set count and sent the game into one last set to 15 points that would decide who would walk away the winner.
The first half of the last set was close. The game was tied multiple times and when the teams switched sides half way through the set, the game Tigers were only winning 8-7. From the time they switched sides, Mizzou went on a 7-3 run and pulled out the upset against Florida in a game that none of the players will forget for a long time.
