Mizzou Women’s Basketball Keeps Rolling

By: Jordan Freeman
The Tigers looking to keep their perfect home record alive, took on SIUE Wednesday 12/7. The Tigers opened with a 9-0 lead after Senior Guard Sierra Michaelis hit three consecutive 3-pointers. Mizzou never looked back as they went on to win 72-60.
Michaelis held the spot light earning 24 points. She played the near forty minutes to help give the Tigers a push at the right times. However, SIUE never went away. Mizzou outscored the Cougars in every quarter except the 4th but still the Cougars stayed within striking distance of Mizzou.
Both teams had their troubles with fouls. Beck and Bauman fouled out for SIUE and Mizzou lost Cierra Porter who had 18 of the Tigers points. Porter went 10-12 from the free throw line and free throws made a huge difference in the game. Mizzou’s starters carried the team all the way through this game as only 7 points came from the bench. The Cougar’s bench had 27.
After the Tigers jumped out to a 9-0 lead, SIUE struck back to make it a 19-15 game at the end of the first, and a 30-25 game at the half. As offense picked up for both teams in the 2nd half, Mizzou scored 23 points in the 3rd and 19 points in the 4th to come away with the win. The Tigers never lost the lead. Lindsey Cunningham and Lianna Doty combined for 20 points in the effort and helped their fellow starters keep the lead.
Mizzou continues their long home stand Friday against Wichita State (3-4) and will be looking to improve to 6-0 at home.
