Some of the smallest and youngest victims of Haiti’s earthquake are finding relief here in the U.S. A flight carrying 53 Haitian children, ranging from infants to 10 years old, landed in Pittsburgh Tuesday.
This is the first wave of orphans expected to be evacuated from the country, which was ravaged by an earthquake last week. The children were taken to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh for medical care and placed in group homes until their adoptions are finalized.
The Children’s Orphanage in Haiti was destroyed by the earthquake.
Meanwhile, more than 11,000 U.S. personnel are on the ground in the devastated nation with medical supplies, helicopters, and earth moving equipment.
