Federal regulators say it’s partly their fault Lehman Brothers collapsed in 2008. 

The chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission vowed to a congressional panel today that the organization would oversee banks better in the future.

The SEC is trying to gather information about a possible accounting trick Lehman Brothers used. A bankruptcy examiner says the accounting trick led to the fall of the company.

Critics have hammered the SEC lately for its monitoring of Wall Street and recent civil charges against Goldman Sachs.
