Former state representative Judy Baker, a Democrat from Columbia who served in the Missouri House from 2004 to 2008, has been appointed regional director the the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services by HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.
Baker will be sworn in Monday in Kansas City and will be responsible for Missouri, Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska and will serve as Sebelius’ liason with federal, state, local and tribal officials to help implement health policy.
The Columbia Daily Tribune reported that she sought the position through the office of Senator Claire McCaskill, a Missouri Democrat.
Baker is a managing partner of Cura Advantage, a health care systems consulting firm, and also previously served as interim director of the University of Missouri’s university physicians practice plan.
