Welcome to Mizzou! We hope you enjoy your time here at the university and would love to be a part of your everyday experience.

Whether you want to get on air or just want to tune in, we’re here to make your time at Mizzou that much more awesome.
Who are we?

KCOU 88.1 FM is Mizzou’s only student owned and operated radio station, broadcasting on air and online 24/7. So what does that mean? Students control every aspect of the process – we are completely student-directed and staffed. It’s your opportunity to influence the cultural sphere in Columbia, especially on campus. It’s your station, your voice.
What do we do?

KCOU highlights a variety of musical styles and genres, ranging from indie rock to hip-hop, alt-country to trance, and almost everything in between. If it’s new, it’s probably being put out over the air by us and well before anyone else in town. While there’s been no polka in recent history, if students start bringing it back – we’ll gladly join the movement! However, if people aren’t feeling it… well, there’s probably a good reason for that. Regardless if there is a particular style of music that you love, chances are good that KCOU already plays it. For these reasons and more, you should listen to KCOU!

Music’s not your thing? We also feature engaging news and sports programming, with a focus on the stories that impact Mizzou – information for students, by students. We are the only broadcast campus media outlet capable of breaking news throughout the day and the only opportunity for students to do sports play-by-play. This makes KCOU the place to be for those interested in broadcast journalism!
Can I get involved?

Absolutely. No matter your experience, we have a comprehensive training program that will teach you all you need to know to go on air – and by as early as Halloween. More information on this will be made available at our general interest meetings (see below).
So what’s next?

KCOU will be hosting several general information meetings at the start of the fall semester and some exciting events that we will be announcing as we get closer to August. You can attend either one of two meetings being held on August 30th and 31st beginning at 7 PM. Simply come to Chambers Auditorium in the Student Center (located above the bookstore), to receive more information about getting involved with your campus radio station, our training program, and other KCOU awesomeness. There may even be some concert ticket giveaways and free food…
So make sure to join the Google Group below so that you will get all the future announcements about training, our exciting fall launch events, and other KCOU new staff information!
