The Missouri Tigers men’s basketball team cruised to a 105-80 win over Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on Tuesday night to improve to 4-0 on the season.
The Tigers were led by D’Moi Hodge, who had a huge night finishing with 30 points on 11/19 shooting from the field, while also adding 7 rebounds and 3 assists.
Mizzou ran into a challenge early on, as All-SEC first team player Kobe Brown picked up two fouls in the first two minutes of the game. Despite Brown going on to play just eight minutes, Mizzou’s offense dominated its way to the program’s highest scoring game since 2010.
“Our team is a balanced team… you have guys playing unselfish, playing the right way,” said Mizzou head coach Dennis Gates.
Sean East II had 14 points on 6/9 shooting from the field in the win, and also led the Tigers in assists with 5. He praised the team for their toughness after Brown ran into foul trouble.
“It’s a next man up mentality.”
Mizzou shot an impressive 59.7% from the field, and 40.9% from deep, with five players scoring in double figures.
After shooting well in their first two games of the season, SIUE shot 28.6% from the field in the first half, allowing Mizzou to jump out to an insurmountable lead early. The Cougars also shot just 19% from deep in the game, and struggled all night long to match the intensity of Mizzou.
Mizzou (4-0) will look to stay undefeated when they host Mississippi Valley State on Sunday night. Meanwhile, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (1-2) will head to Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday night.
