After achieving remarkable success at the 2024 Grammy Awards with nine nominations and three wins, R&B artist SZA officially dropped her latest single, “Saturn,” on February 22.
The song made its debut in a Mastercard commercial during the Grammys, leaving fans eager for more. In the Mastercard ad for the Priceless Planet Coalition, SZA is showcased in an enchanted forest, swinging and singing “Saturn” to advocate for forest restoration.
“We’re a force of nature when we come together. That’s why I’m supporting Mastercard on their mission to restore forests around the globe. Join me,” she says to conclude the ad.
With a captivating start of melodic piano leading into SZA’s soft vocals, “Saturn” is undeniably lovable, featuring the lyrics, “There’s got to be more, been here before. Life’s better on Saturn.” As the song progresses, SZA expresses her desire to live on a different planet as she yearns for more than Earth can offer, leading her to believe that life would be better on Saturn.
This single serves as a preview for her upcoming self-titled album, “Lana,” a nod to her first name, Solana. The surprise release includes a multi-track bundle featuring live, acapella, sped-up and instrumental versions alongside the original.
Known for refining her projects before unveiling them, SZA, who made fans wait five years for her sophomore album, “SOS,” hints that the release of “Lana” might be closer than anticipated, as “Saturn” offers a sneak peek into the upcoming album.
