Coach Barry Odom of the Missouri Tigers is coming off of a blowout loss at the hands of the LSU Tigers, right in the middle of a tough SEC schedule. Luckily, Odom and his tigers are heading into their bye week before heading to the swamp to play the Florida Gators. When asked about the bye week and what it’s done for his team, Odom had this to say, “… we’re using it wisely and we’ll be a better team coming out of our bye week…”. Odom feels this confidence in his team because they’re getting reps for guys who have been injured to get them back in the game as quickly as possible and also they can get more of the much needed prep for Florida.
The Tigers just got trampled down in the Bayou to the tune of 42-7 by the LSU Tigers. The Tigers defense allowed 293 yards to two running backs on 38 carries between the two of them. Overall, the Bayou Bengals rushed for a total of 403 yards on Mizzou. LSU’s offensive line opened up huge gaps and and gave their runners plenty of space to break off big rushes. The defense of LSU held Drew Lock to 17/37 passing for 167 yards and an interception. Mizzou’s rushing attack was also limited to a measly 77 yards on 22 carries. Obviously not a lot to be happy about after a rout like that, however Odom did comment on how the loss has gotten him and his team excited to get back out on the field and recover from the blowout loss, “I’m anxious to get back and play and our kids are too”.
After letting up so many yards on the ground against LSU and having continued tackling problems throughout the season, there are many questions surrounding the defensive line. Despite the problems, Odom still had confidence in his defensive line, “We’re plenty good on the defensive line. If we go do the right things Sunday through Saturday kickoff, we go do the right things: preparation, coaching, teaching, learning, applying. We do all those things, we’ll be just fine.” Odom is looking for his boys to step up and start producing on the field and show everyone why he is confident in them.
