Thomas, Jacobs, Gillen drop out of race

MSA presidential candidates Blaine Thomas and Claire Jacobs, as well as vice presidential candidate Caius Gillen, withdrew from the race yesterday. This comes after the candidates received backlash for old tweets that included many examples of derogatory language. Gillen released a statement on Twitter apologizing for his tweets.

BEC lifts brief campaign suspension caused by candidates’ old tweets

The BEC announced in a press release that suspension on campaigning has been lifted. The statement from BEC chair Joseph Sell clarified that there were no enforceable infractions. The suspension was initially attributed to concern over remarks candidates made on social media.

Willett/Englert slate wins MSA election amid controversy

Just after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night, Board of Elections Commissioners Chairwoman Brooke Wiggins announced that Nathan Willett and Payton Englert won the 2017 Missouri Students Association presidential election with 54 percent of the vote.

Hundreds protest Trump’s executive order on immigration

Last Sunday, January 29th, hundreds of people gathered outside Lambert-St. Louis International Airport to protest Donald Trump’s actions during the first week of his presidency. In particular, the protesters expressed opposition to Trump’s executive order temporarily banning refugees and green card holders from seven Muslim-majority countries.
