Missouri volleyball entered Friday’s game with high hopes after beating Number 11 ranked Florida in a tough five sets on Sunday. It responded with a clean 3-0 sweep of the LSU Tigers at Mizzou Arena.
The first set was a tough battle between both teams. Mizzou topped LSU 25-21 in the first set. The second set was much tougher- LSU and Mizzou traded back to back blows to one another to the point where a challenge decided who’d take the lead.
LSU challenged that the ball went out of bounds at a 22-22 tie. The challenge would ultimately fail, and give Mizzou the lead.
It was a turning point- LSU could have easily won the second set if they’d won the challenge. The third set was a crushing blow for the LSU; they were at one point down to Missouri 20-7.
The third set ended with the final score 25-12 for Mizzou to walk easily past LSU to get the win. Sophomore Kylie Deberg led Missouri with 19 points, while Senior Olivia Beyer led LSU with 8 points.
Redshirt Freshmen Andrea Fuentes led both teams in assists with a whopping 41 assists. Mizzou dominated the kill game, finishing with 54 kills compared to LSU’s 34. Missouri (19-4 Overall, 9-2 Conference) will try to continue its momentum against Texas A&M on Sunday at the Mizzou Arena.
Missouri carries a 7-game winning streak and an undefeated 8-0 record at home. LSU (7-14 Overall, 2-8 Conference) will now get a breather back in Baton Rouge, and head to Starkville, Mississippi on Friday, Nov. 2 for its next matchup against Mississippi State.
