Dr. Dog – Listening In (PARANOIA)

While Dr. Dog has always possessed the ability to create groovy, low-fi rock music, their songs are typically more upbeat and optimistic in the face of struggles. Their newest single, “Listening In,” takes a different approach with minor-key melodies draped over a steady drum beat and gritty guitar chords. Scott McMicken sings of his anxiety and paranoia that accompany him as he “listens in” on a world where there are voices but none of which seem to be speaking to him. If this single is any indication of the kind of music they’re going to be putting out on their new album in April, we have a lot more brooding to look forward to.
