MGMT – When You Die (MACABRE)

MGMT’s new track fits well into the macabre theme for the rest of the album (which will be released February 9th): somewhat discordant, yet entrancingly melodic, and a hit nonetheless. There are hints of influence from their past projects, especially noticeable in the vocals, exemplified through some lyrics sounding intentionally strained (as they do on some of their other songs such as “Time To Pretend,” “Pieces of What,” and other tracks from the Oracular Spectacular era). The music video adds dimension to the song, but its relation to the lyrics is up for interpretation. You’re truly missing out on a psychedelic experience if you pass this track up!
