Mizzou Soccer, Oregon State Play To 0-0 Draw

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Missouri Tigers Women’s Soccer team played to a 0-0 draw with Oregon State Friday night at Walton Stadium.
The Tigers controlled the run of play throughout the game but were never able to find the goal to put them ahead. Mizzou put the pressure on almost immediately from the opening kick as they earned a corner within the first minute of the contest. The resulting shot attempt was parried well by OSU ‘keeper Bella Geist, which became a theme for the night as she wound up with 7 saves on the evening, each one better than the previous.
Mizzou also generated plenty of scoring chances that went just wide of net, most notably a chance off a corner kick that was headed inches wide of the near post in the closing stages of the game. This continued a trend for the Tigers early on in the season as they yet again surpassed the 20-shot plateau, but were unable to translate shots to goals as they were held off the score sheet for the second time in three games.
The Tigers defense stood out tonight, as they did not allow OSU to have a clean look at net until the dying minutes of the second overtime period. Mizzou’s back line held the Beavers without a shot on target for over 90 consecutive minutes over the run of play, allowing nothing between the 5th and 97th minutes. OSU finished the game with only 7 shots and 3 on goal in 110 minutes of play.
The Tigers’ next game is Sunday at 7 p.m. against Northwestern in Bridgeview, Ill.
