NEW: The Return of Sleater-Kinney

Sleater-Kinney2

After various hints of a return to music, Sleater-Kinney have announced a new album, tour, and have released a new lyric video for their single, “Bury Our Friends” (feat. Miranda July!) Watch the lyric video below.

Lead vocalist and guitarist Carrie Brownstein is probably most widely known today for her role on IFC’s “Portlandia,” opposite Fred Armisen. However, her career started back in 1994 in Olympia, WA with the formation of Sleater-Kinney, alongside Corin Tucker and Janet Weiss. One of the most well known riot grrrl bands of the 90s, Sleater-Kinney also contributed to the mass of post-punk and anti-folk bands coming out of Olympia at the time.

While they released their last record as Sleater-Kinney, The Woods, in 2005, Brownstein and Weiss continued to make music as Wild Flag with former members of Helium and The Minders until last year.

After a 9 year hiatus, Sleater-Kinney has released a new single, as well as plans to release an album and tour in early 2015. Unfortunately, the closest they’re coming to Columbia will be Chicago in February – anyone up for a road trip?
