No. 19 Missouri women’s basketball dominates New Orleans at home

No. 19 Missouri women’s basketball (7-1) rolled in an non-conference bout against the New Orleans privateers, 81-45 at home Saturday.
Junior Sophie Cunningham completely dominated, recording 18 points to lead Missouri scorers. The junior continued to star after being held to just a single point in Thursday’s win.
Missouri raced out a strong start, pressing on defense in the first quarter and grabbing a 24-6 lead after the first quarter. New Orleans seemed overmatched form the start.
It was more of the same in the second quarter. The Tigers finished off the first half shooting 52 percent from the floor led by Cunningham, who shot 6 for 6.
After a career-best 23-point effort in Thursday’s win, sophomore Amber Smith was quieted to 4 points of 2-6 shooting. It didn’t matter, as 12 of 13 Missouri players who took the floor scored to pick up the slack.
Missouri’s defense shined brightly, forcing the Privateers to just 23 percent shooting and a whopping 20 turnovers.
Missouri has now won seven straight games after its season opening loss against Western Kentucky on Nov. 10. That’s its longest streak since the team raced out to a 13-0 start in the 2015-16 season.
The Tigers will be back on action on Dec. 8 at against the St. Louis Billikens. The game is set to tip at 7 p.m. from Mizzou Arena, and can be seen on WatchESPN.
