Shamir – 90’s Kids (POST-IRONY)

By Dean Cowles

Shamir, an artist whose work often defies simple genre labels, is back with an ode to our generation – 90’s kids! Beneath the pop-culture pastiche is a fairly simple but interesting message about the anxiety of youth. Shamir’s voice floats above computer sounds and an echoey melody as his mouth is superimposed over nearly every popular internet meme of the last half decade. Is it good? Well… it’s definitely worth a listen, especially if you can get past the intentionally ironic and immature presentation.
