Sleigh Bells – Blue Trash Mattress Fire (HAIR-RAISING)

By Stella Peters

On their song “Blue Trash Mattress Fire”, which is as scattered and intentionally incohesive as the title suggests, the undefinable duo Sleigh Bells pushes the boundary between electronically influenced pop and hair-raising noise-rock. These two completely different styles unite to create an energetic but emotional symphony of sound unlike anything you’ve heard before. Lead singer Alexis Krauss’ echoing vocals spill over the reverberative guitar licks supplied by Derek Miller, fusing multiple genres into a purposefully noisy lovechild. “Blue Trash Mattress Fire” contains refreshing versatility and dimension that is missing from a lot of popular rock music today.
