The Rentals – Elon Musk Is Making Me Sad (DREAM ON)

By Ben Luty

Ex-Weezer bassist Matt Sharp’s band The Rentals released a song lamenting that he is older than Elon Musk and has wasted his life. He references “having the lead” over Musk in 1995, following the huge success of Weezer and release of The Rental’s debut album. This song is way cooler than anything Weezer has dropped leading up to Pacific Daydream, and is proof that Matt Sharp was an important piece of what made Blue Album and Pinkerton so fantastic. You can’t help but wish it was ‘96 Rivers screaming the vocals, though. Only In Dreams.
