Tigers Drop Game 3, Still Win Series Over Ole Miss

The Ole Miss baseball claimed a 4-3 victory over No. 14 Missouri on Sunday. Ole Miss seemed to rebound quite nicely from yesterday’s rough loss.

Connor Cloyd went 3-for-3, reaching base all four times he stepped to the plate and recording his eighth multi-hit game in the past 10 contests. Nic Perkins recorded his second straight multi-hit game with a pair of singles.

Missouri’s offense looked lack luster since catcher Brett Bond was the only Tiger to record multiple hits, while Shane Benes added a solo home run. Other than that, it almost seems like the Tigers used all of their fire power yesterday in the 18-1 series clinching victory. While their bats weren’t exploding with power, neither was their defense. With critical fielding errors in key moments, it wouldn’t be unfair to say that the Tigers gave Ole Miss 2 runs.

Ole Miss added another run to take a three-run lead late in the game. Perkins led off the inning with a single up and Cloyd sprinted out a groundball for an infield single. Later in the 8th, with runners on the corners and Kyle Watson pinch-running for Perkins, J.B. Woodman dropped a perfect bunt for a suicide squeeze that scored the runner. Making it 4-1. Missouri battled back in the 8th scoring 2 runs off of a single to right but it wasn’t enough to take down the Rebels.
