Week 5 Predictions And Top 12’s

By: Jackson Marvin

  1. The Bengals improve to 5-0. The Bengals started last year 3-0 before getting rocked by the Patriots. This year they face a similar situation, but this is a different Bengals team. The Bengals are leading the league in offense, and it stems from quarterback Andy Dalton. Dalton trusts his receivers, consistently making sharp throws in coverage to AJ Green, Marvin Jones, and Tyler Eifert, which helps establish a strong run game. Going against one of the best secondaries in the NFL, this could be the week Andy Dalton proves to teams around the league he is a legit top ten quarterback. Bold prediction: Dalton tosses three TD’s, two to AJ Green, against Richard Sherman and the Seattle secondary.

  1. The Rams beat the Packers. It’s hard to see the Packers losing to anybody after four easy wins, especially at Lambeau Field, but the Rams always seem to put on against the best of the best. If Todd Gurley can sustain the show he put on last week against a stingy Cardinals defense, the Packers could have their hands full. Also, the Rams dominant defensive line, led by potential Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald, should put pressure on Aaron Rodgers and do a fair job of bottling up Eddie Lacy. Bold prediction: The Rams win 17-6 with Gurley scoring twice and limiting the Pack to under 300 yards from scrimmage.

  1. Devonta Freeman and Julio Jones continue their offensive tear. It’s easy to overlook the fact that the Redskins are actually the league’s fourth best defense in yards per game, and has genuinely shown flashes of a team with potential. However, they have yet to face an offense with as firepower as the Falcons, and after a disappointing week 4, Julio Jones should pick on a banged up Washington secondary, while Freeman keeps the offense balanced. Is a third straight week of three touchdowns realistic for Freeman? Not really, but between Jones and Freeman three scores is very reasonable. Bold prediction: Freeman and Jones combine for more yards and touchdowns than the entire Washington offense.

  1. In a battle of 1-3 teams, Philadelphia exposes just how bad New Orleans is. Chip Kelly’s trademark fast-paced, high-powered offense has yet to show up on this year’s Eagles team, but perhaps Week 5 is where they break out. The Eagles have lost some bad games, but the Saints legitimately look like a bad team. 27th against the run in the NFL, the Saints should struggle against whichever Philly back carries the ball, despite an embarrassing offensive line. Sam Bradford should be hitting Jordan Matthews all day against the Saints’ subpar secondary that even Brandon Weeden put up a 105.6 passer rating. Bold prediction: Eagles score 40 points, and Jordan Matthews and Ryan Matthews both hit over 100 total yards.

  1. AFC East dominates. This is slightly easy to say since the dumpster fire down in Miami is on a bye week and the Jets are too, but both the Bills and Patriots will show why this is the division to beat in the AFC this year. The Bills will play a Tennessee offense that shows promise under rookie Marcus Mariota, but with dominant corners and a fearsome defensive line the Bills should have no problem cooling down the Titan’s offense. Despite injuries to running backs Lesean Mccoy and Karlos Williams, the Bills should succeed behind quarterback Tyrod Taylor’s dual-threat ability and possibly having Sammy Watkins back. The Patriots’ defense is also a solid unit, especially facing a lowly offense in Dallas led by Brandon Weeden (he gets two burns in one article. Savage.). Look for Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski to torch the Cowboys coming off of the Patriots’ Week 4 bye. Bold prediction: The Bills and Patriots put up at least 30 points each, holding their opponents to under 10. The tight ends on both teams score.
