In their second SEC Tournament match in three days, the Missouri women’s soccer team fell 3-2 to South Carolina on Tuesday night. The game, which was the second meeting between the two teams and the final quarterfinal match of the tournament, saw the Tigers defeated by the Gamecocks once again. 
While the loss ended the season for the Tigers, it was not because of a lack of effort. After giving up an early second-half goal to Catherine Barry and moving the game to 3-0 in the Gamecocks’ favor, Missouri answered South Carolina just 14 seconds later. Bella Alessi maneuvered around the six-yard box and chipped a shot over the shoulder of South Carolina goalie Heather Hinz. Thirteen minutes later, Julissa Cisneros split the Gamecock defense to tally Missouri’s second goal of the half. The comeback stopped there though, despite the Tigers outshooting South Carolina 9-8 in the second half (5-3 SOG). 
For the Gamecocks, their season was extended with their second win against Missouri this year. Catherine Barry led the way once again for South Carolina (she had 2 goals in the first meeting between teams), as she tallied the third Gamecock goal of the game and assisted on the second. Lauren Chang scored in the fifth minute of the game, giving South Carolina more comfort to execute their more possessive style of play the rest of the match. It paid off for the fourth-seed of the SEC Tournament, and their lead was expanded in the 20th minute after Sutton Jones swung in a cross that evaded the hands of Missouri goalkeeper Isabella Alessio. 
Thursday night will bring South Carolina a matchup against the first-seeded Arkansas in the semifinal round of the tournament. The Gamecocks took down the Razorbacks 2-1 earlier this season, handing them their only loss of the season.Whoever wins that match will play the winner of the other semifinal game between Vanderbilt and Texas A&M.
