Your generous donation to the L.C. Chandler Memorial Endowment will help provide support for journalism students pursuing their passion with the same love L.C. did.

L.C. had a way of lighting up any room with his infectious smile and charming personality. Whether it was on the basketball court, in the newsroom, or just lounging around at home, L.C. shared a special connection with people, and his genuine love and care for them was immediately felt. He served as a mentor to hundreds of KCOU staff members during his several years with KCOU.

With his motto of “It’s time to talk sports”, L.C. left KCOU, KOMU and the University of Missouri to work at WALB. He died while working there in April 2015.

While we all have our favorite memories of our time with L.C., this endowment will provide a tangible way to remember him, while also helping future journalism students in their pursuit of their goals. Your donation will allow students to learn and work to achieve their goals with the same attitude and determination L.C. did.

The endowment fund will provide:

  • Named studio space in the KCOU 88.1 FM space at the MU Student Center. “Studio LC”
  • Scholarship for an out-of-state broadcast journalism student who is involved with KCOU
  • Funds to maintain equipment and broadcasting opportunities for broadcast journalism students working with KCOU Sports broadcasts

KCOU 88.1 FM Radio Station Gifts Fund – $80k goal

KCOU 88.1 FM is the student-run radio station at the University of Missouri. For more than 40 years of FM and 50 of student radio, KCOU has gained national recognition, providing the voice of 40,000 students and 100,000 Columbia residents. We broadcast 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. KCOU has received regional and national awards for producing extraordinary programming and online content, but we cannot do it without your financial support. We give students the unique opportunity to both produce and host their own radio shows. Since our founding in 1963, KCOU has focused on playing what students want to hear. The station serves as an outlet for the latest in campus and community news, MU sports, podcasts, the newest music from genres and artists often ignored by commercial stations, and most importantly: the voice of Mizzou students. How the money will be used:

  • Keeping our equipment current and in working condition (COMPLETED: New Studio in 2011, New tower equipment in 2016)
  • Providing pay for our Chief Engineer and Exec Staff
  • Scholarship opportunities for Student Radio staff
  • Providing travel budgets for live on-location broadcasts
