The tenth ranked Missouri Tigers traveled to Oxford, Mississippi to take on the Ole Miss Rebels on
Wednesday. It was a closely contested game that was highlighted by the streakiness of each team. Each
team would go on scoring droughts and runs where it seemed like they just couldn’t miss, which made
this a pretty even matchup.
In a battle of the boards, it seemed as if each team was only scoring on second chance opportunities.
Through the first half, Dru Smith was performing, once again, at an All-SEC level, racking up 11 points, 1
rebound, 1 assist and a steal going into the half. For Ole Miss, the story of the first half was all Jarkel
Joiner. The junior guard led both teams in scoring with 12 points at half to go along with his two
rebounds and his lone assist.
The Tigers completely fell apart coming out of the locker room for the start of the second half. Ole Miss
came out and outscored the Tigers 12-2 to begin the second half. Halfway through the second half,
Missouri had been outscored 22-11 in the half and were down 66-48. The shooting woes were present
for the Tigers as they couldn’t get anything to fall. It seemed as if the Rebels just couldn’t miss a shot, as
they continued to put the pedal to the metal. Ole Miss was led by the three headed monster of Jarkel
Joiner, Luis Rodriguez and Devontae Shuler who combined for 51 points. The last time the 10 th ranked
Missouri Tigers faced an unranked Ole Miss team, they suffered a similar fate.
The Missouri Tigers fall to the Ole Miss Rebels, 80-59, and fall to 6-4 in SEC play. The Tigers look towards
Saturday when they take on the Arkansas Razorbacks back home in Columbia.
