It was a border war showdown night at Taylor stadium. In the 348th meeting of all time, the Jayhawks of Kansas came to beautiful Columbia Missouri for an out-of-conference game against the Missouri Tigers. The Jayhawks were 10-16 coming into this game while the Tigers are 17-8. The Tigers sent out Nathan Landry and the Jayhawks sent out Jake Adams.
After working around a walk in the top of the first the Tigers were firing on all cylinders in the bottom of the first. Josh Day got hit by the pitch to start it off, and then Luke Mann walked. With both runners on first, Torin Montgomery was able to add a run to the plate due to a Jayhawks error at shortstop. Then, the reigning SEC player of the week Fox Leum singled up the middle scoring Mann. The Tigers scored three runs.
It was more of the same for the Tigers in the bottom of the second inning. After Nander De Sedas and Day both got on, Trevor Austin hit a double to right-center bringing home De Sedas. Mann followed up next with a base hit of his own bringing in Day. Montgomery hit into a double play, but Austin was able to score. The run parade kept going when Leum blasted one over the center field wall. Missouri had seven runs total at the end of the second inning. The Tigers found runs early and often and never looked back. Tre Morris found the left field bullpen to add two more runs to the Tigers lead in the bottom of the 5th.
The Tigers scored five total runs through the in the 6th through 8th innings, making the score 14-6. The Tigers looked really good offensively, having 12 total hits. Even though Kansas had 12 hits as well, they couldn’t get much going offensively. They did have one positive side to the game, as their catcher Nolan Metcalf had two home runs and five RBI. Austin Cheely induced a 1-2-3 inning to get the Tigers their 18th win on the season.
