Missouri handily beat No. 2 Tennessee 7-1 at home Sunday in the late game of the doubleheader, sweeping the series. The Tigers move to 16-3 on the year and remain undefeated in conference play, while the Volunteers fall to 15-6.
The Tigers’ stellar afternoon was marked by an excellent pitching performance from Austin Troesser and the bullpen. Troesser went 4.2 innings, allowing no hits and giving up one run, earning his second win of the year.
Right fielder Cam Chick led Missouri offensively. He had his way at the plate, going 2-2 with 3 RBIs and a walk.
Tennessee looked lost on the mound, at the plate, and in the field in the late window. The Volunteers only managed to accumulate a single hit, consistently struggled to find the strike zone, and racked up three errors – all of which resulted in runs.
Tennessee has already racked up three conference losses in a lackluster start to the young 2023 campaign, the Volunteers only had five SEC losses in all of 2022.
Missouri will look to continue its hot streak when it hosts Kansas this Wednesday. Tennessee hosts Western Carolina Tuesday.
