Game one of a three-game series versus North Texas starts at Mizzou Softball Stadium with an exciting win for the Tigers on Friday night.
The win in the circle goes to Laurin Krings, who pitched her third Mizzou career no-hitter. She breaks her career record for Ks, collecting 17 in the game, and striking out 13 batters in a row. Through six innings, Krings allowed no base runners, and gathered the first 15 outs of the game on her own, after recording an out on a sliding catch on a popped-up bunt.
When asked about her emotions, Krings stated, “It felt amazing, all the smiles and the hugs and just excitement is just what I do this for.” After a chilly 40-degree game, with a 20-minute break between the fourth and fifth innings, Krings was drenched in a celebratory ice bath that she says she should have seen coming.
This is the third straight season the junior has reached 100 strikeouts (114 on the season), and she currently ranks 10th all-time in Mizzou program history with 421 career K’s.
“It’s such an impressive outing, she had great command and control. I had so much confidence in no matter what pitch I threw, she was going to throw it exactly where it needed to go. I haven’t seen as many pitching outings as dominant as she performed tonight” Head Coach Larissa Anderson stated after the game.
Aside from the dominant pitching, Missouri hits were hard to come by. The Tigers successfully reached base on hits three times in the game. Payton Jackson hammered a triple in the fourth, which led to a 20-minute game delay on a protested obstruction call. Maddie Gallagher singled up the middle in the fifth. However, the only run of the game for the Tigers is credited to Laurin Krings partner-in-crime, Julia Crenshaw, who hit a solo blast to left field in the bottom of the second inning.
“Sometimes it just doesn’t go our way with the bats, and even for pitching sometimes it doesn’t, but one side is always going to pick the other side up,” stated Krings.
Larissa Anderson gives props to North Texas pitcher, Ashley Peters, for her ability to control the momentum and keep her hitters on their toes and uncomfortable in the box, all through her quick pitching routine.
Mizzou softball clinches the series Saturday with a 2-1 win over Mean Green. The last game of the series is Sunday, April 23 at noon.
