The Grans Creek Classic races thrilled spectators Friday morning. The fans matched the runners’ energy, practically running with the athletes of their favorite teams. The women’s 6K was a test of determination, mental and physical strength with a heat of 75 degrees. It was a successful 6K race for the talented Missouri Tigers finishing second place, led by their standout graduate student Mikayla Reed. Reed jumped from 16th to 12th place in the final stretch, cementing Missouri’s second place finish.
Reed approached the heat with a strategic mindset.
“It’s what Mizzou needed, those crucial points. It is hot for everyone. I knew it was going to be really warm out today, so I started prepping my body a few days out with a lot of water and electrolytes,” Reed said.

In addition to Reed’s speedy race, the Tigers stayed true to the pack running dominance that led them to having eight of the top 10 finishers in their season opener.
Senior Jenna Schwartz led the pack behind Reed.
“We executed what needed to be done, and I am happy with it. Time to gear up for pre-nats in two weeks,” Schwartz said. The Tigers earned a true team win, and they look forward to using the next two weeks to recover and prepare for Pre-Nationals October 14.
