COLUMBIA, Mo. — The Mizzou women’s volleyball team delivered an impressive performance against Alabama, securing a decisive 3-0 victory in their SEC home opener. This win sets the stage for an upcoming matchup against the Tennessee Lady Volunteers on Sunday at home.
Alabama came out strong offensively in the first set, but Mizzou quickly responded. The game was back and forth throughout, but after the Tigers rallied in the first set, they never looked back.
Mizzou showcased its strength as key players stepped up. Senior Jordan Iliff was a standout, recording three service aces and 17 kills with a hitting percentage of .500. Her offensive prowess was complemented by solid defensive play, contributing three digs and two blocks. Iliff also recorded her 1,000th career kill during the match.
Mychael Vernon also had a notable performance, tallying 14 kills and a hitting percentage of .273. Vernon demonstrated her versatility on the court, adding eight digs to help maintain Mizzou’s momentum.
While Iliff and Vernon were stars of the night, the victory was truly a team effort. The Tigers’ defense proved formidable, stifling Alabama’s attacks and capitalizing on key opportunities.
The win follows a dominant shutout against Southeast Missouri State on Wednesday, where both Iliff and Vernon recorded double-digit kills. Mizzou carried that momentum into the match against Alabama, extending their winning streak.
Next up, Mizzou aims to maintain this energy as they host Tennessee on Sunday. The Tigers are currently 11-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play, while Tennessee stands at 9-5 and is also 2-2 in the SEC.
