Whiteout night for the Packers at Lambeau Field was a resounding success, as the Packers beat down on the Commanders on Thursday night. The result was led by quarterback Jordan Love’s air raid on the veteran Washington defense that proved to be the factor, as both teams failed to get the ground game going for most of the night.
The start of the game was very defense heavy, with both teams holding firm, not giving an inch. Then, the game was blown open when wide receiver Romeo Doubs caught a five yard pass from Love to put the Packers out in front, a position they would maintain all game.
The second quarter started slow like the first, with two straight drives ending in punts. Then, a methodical drive ended by a Josh Jacobs touchdown into the endzone put the Pack up 14 to nothing, with all the momentum in their boat. The commanders responded with a field goal by kicker Matt Gay, and with the last three drives all ending with missed opportunities, the Packers held a 14-3 lead heading into halftime.
The Commanders had an amazing return to start the second half by Wide Receiver Deebo Samuel but couldn’t capitalize on it thanks to a missed field goal. The Packers then made their own field goal on the next drive, and both teams exchanged three and outs before the fourth quarter started.
Washington’s ace quarterback Jayden Daniels then threw a great ball to tight end Zack Ertz for a Commanders touchdown to get them within seven late in the game. Jordan Love then drove the Packers down the field to a 24 yard Tucker Kraft touchdown pass, effectively icing the game. The Commanders then turned it over on downs, the Pack kicked a field goal, Washington then scored a garbage time touchdown with the two-point conversion, and then the Packers iced the game, leading to a crucial win.
For the Packers, Jordan Love had a nearly flawless game, passing the ball effectively to his team with almost 300 yards in the air and no interceptions. On the other side of the ball, the defense held on thanks to new acquisition Micah Parsons on the defensive line to an already lethal secondary.
For the Commanders, it was a painful defeat, as they could not keep up with the Packers all around great play, despite Jayden Daniels’ best efforts. To add insult to injury though, running back Austin Ekeler tore his Achilles on a non-contact play during that touchdown drive in the fourth, leaving Washington without their best running back for the rest of the year.
For the Packers, they’ll take the extra rest before their matchup on the road with struggling Cleveland next week. Washington’s extra rest will help them recover for a matchup against Geno Smith and the Las Vegas Raiders next week.
