The Lady Tigers proved that the “Eye of the Tiger” truly exists Monday night. It exists in the form of Morgan Eye, who showed no mercy to the St. Louis Billikens by dropping six 3-pointers and 20 points in the game as Mizzou roughed up in-state rival SLU 74-55.
Although Eye was the highlight of the show, several other Tigers pitched in the dominating effort. Starting off the show, the Billikens held an early lead, but it was squandered when Eye drained two 3-pointers in a row. After eliminating the Billikens second chances by getting defensive rebounds, it was all Tigers the rest of the way.
Juanita Robinson came off the bench to pitch in double-digit figures (10 points) and Kayla McDowell did the same falling one point short of her season-high.
The two 3-pointers Eye made lead to a 10-2 run, and, later, a 36-29 Tiger lead at halftime.
Five minutes passed and the Tigers still held onto a 7-point lead. That is, until, Bri Porter made a 3-point play and triggered an 11-1 run with 8 and a half minutes left to play. This run gave the Mizzou women a 20-point lead. Stout defense by the Tigers finished the Billikens off as they won another home game at the Mizzou Arena.
The Billikens go back to St. Louis to play Indiana St., while the Tigers stay in Columbia to play former Big 12 rival Colorado (5-1).
