Ever since listening to Juan Wauters’ 2014 debut, North American Poetry, I’ve been eagerly awaiting more from him. His silly bum folk rock is completely up my alley. When I saw his plans to release a new EP, I was excited to hear more from this Uruguayan folk weirdo — then I saw that it would be a duo with Carmelle. Seeing as his two songs on NAP featuring Carmelle were my least favorite of the album, my expectations were pretty low – but I still went in with an open mind.
Open mind or not, after listening to Wearing Leather, Wearing Fur, I know now that I’m just not a huge fan of Carmelle’s voice. That being said, the 13 minute continuous EP still has a few moments reminiscent of NAP – they even finish with the ending to Wauters’, “Water,” from NAP. But I still want more Juan (sry Carmelle).
