After being swept in their first home series of the year against Milwaukee, the Tigers look to get back on track Wednesday and they did just that defeating SIUE 9-4 extending their win streak to two games.
Mizzou had Alec Rash on the hill and he set the tone from the opening pitch. Rash would set the Cougars down in order in the opening frame and go on to allow only one earned run over 4 strong innings of work. Jake Ring got the Tigers offense off to a good start with a double in the bottom of the first, Ring has now gotten on base in all of the Tigers 15 games this season. Mizzou would strike first in the bottom of the second when SIUE committed a throwing error, which would drive in Brett Bond from third.
In Mizzou’s 10-2 victory over Truman State Tuesday night, Brett Peel made the offense happen with a double and two stolen bases. Wednesday would be no different, as Peel would double in the bottom of the third to put the Tigers up 3-0. Peel would go on to steal two bases on the night which would put him tied a top the leader board for stolen bases in the SEC with 12.
SIUE would strike in the top of the fourth with an infield single to cut the Tigers to lead to two. But the Tigers would push their two run lead to five when designated hitter Chris Akmon doubled to right, scoring two to give the Tigers a 5-1 lead. Last night’s hero Josh Lester would drive in another two runs with a single though the right hole.
Mizzou put their guard down up 7-1 in the top of the fifth. SIUE would put two on the board cutting the lead to 7-3. Andrew Schwaab would hit a Cougar to force in a run but would retire the next hitter to keep the Tigers up by three. The Tigers though would wake right back up and push two more runs home in the bottom half of the inning to go back up by five. That was all Mizzou needed as they would go on to win the game 9-4 improving their record to 12-4. Mizzou will be home again next Tuesday when they take on Air Force.
