The No. 15-ranked Missouri Tigers swept the woeful Georgia Bulldogs 25-22, 25-18, 25-17 to complete the season sweep over the Bulldogs. Mizzou remains perfect at the Hearnes Center and puts their season record at 22-5 (10-3 in the SEC), while Georgia falls to 5-20 and 0-13 in the SEC.
It was not a pretty win for the Tigers, as sluggish starts to all three sets would keep the Bulldogs in it throughout the match. However, the trio of junior Carly Kan, redshirt sophomore Kira Larson, and freshman Alyssa Munlyn would power Missouri to the 3-0 sweep. All three combined for a total of 33 kills.
Kan’s team-leading 13 kills moved her past 400 on the season, her second 400-plus kill season at Mizzou. Her kills would not come at more important times during the match as she would have back-to-back kills for the Tigers to get Missouri within one point of Georgia in each of the first two sets.
Sloppy play by the Bulldogs at the end of each set would prove costly and the Tigers would take advantage. In the second set it was tied 18-18 and Georgia committed five errors (four straight errors at one point) to spur a 7-0 Missouri run to close out the set. While it was not a pretty win, Mizzou proved why they are one of the best teams in the nation by being able to grit out a sloppy victory and still posting a sweep.
Missouri will travel to Lexington, Ky. this Sunday, Nov. 15, when they will play 13th-ranked Kentucky. First serve set for 12:30 p.m. CST.
