Saturday afternoon the 14th-ranked Missouri Tigers took the field for Game 2 of a 3-game weekend series against SEC foe 10th-ranked Georgia. The Tigers dropped the first game of the series the previous night in 12-4 routing by the Bulldogs. The Tigers hoped to come out and put forth a better showing in the second matchup.
That wasn’t the case though, as the Georgia Bulldogs came out on top again tonight, taking game 2 with a 10-0 routing over Mizzou. In a game that was cut short in the 5th inning by a 10-run mercy rule, the Bulldogs had no shortage of hitting in this one as they notched 5 total homeruns, 2 by Alyssa DiCarlo, off of 11 hits, including an inside-the-park homerun off or an error.
Scoring went as follows:
In the top of the 1st inning, Alyssa DiCarlo hit a 3-run homerun to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead to start the game. They would add on to the lead in the top of the 2nd after a single by Sydni Emanuel scored Katie Browne to give Georgia a 4-0 lead.
Later on in the top of the 3rd, the Bulldogs would further add to their lead with two more homeruns, one by DiCarlo, her second of the day, and the other by Lacey Sumerlin. The two solo shots would give Georgia a comfortable 6-0 lead heading into the bottom half of the inning.
Moving to the bottom of the 4th, the Bulldogs weren’t done scoring. An errant pitch by Paige Lowary scored Sydni Emanuel from third. The unearned run padded Georgia’s lead to 7-0. Later, Tina Isoefa would smash a 2-run homerun to centerfield, Georgia’s 4th homer of the day, which gave the Bulldogs a 9-0 lead.
In the top of the 5th inning the Tigers woes would continue after a Samantha LaZear bunt attempt resulted in a lot more than just a bunt, as an errant throw to first base rolled into an empty right field wall and LaZear would notch an inside-the-park homerun to give the Bulldogs a commanding 10-0 lead as they would notch the mercy rule ending after getting 3 more outs in the bottom of the 5th to end the game.
With the loss, the Tigers fall to 26-9 on the year and the Bulldogs improve to 33-8.
