On a cool Friday night, the Missouri Tigers won their third straight game in a 4-1 rout of San Francisco. This improved the Tigers’ record to 4-1 overall for the season.
The Tigers had plenty of opportunities to score as they consistently got into the box and applied pressure to the opposing goalkeeper. It was a physical game early on, but it seemed that the Mizzou forwards were winning the physical aspect of the match as they were able to finesse and power through the defense to allow four different Tigers to score.
It started off quick – in the first ten minutes the Tigers missed two close shots including a Jessica Johnson header and an Erin Webb shot that was barely outside the net.
Then, four minutes later the Tigers struck. Allie Hess came in and put one in the back of the net for the first score of the game. This gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead at the time.
Savannah Trujillo scored almost fifteen minutes later off of an assist by Sarah Leubbert. The shot barely beat the fully extended keeper after it tipped off of her glove and rolled into the net creating a 2-0 lead for the Tigers.
Just because the Tigers were scoring does not mean they had missed opportunities. After Amanda Shaw broke through the defensive line, she missed an open chance to score as she kicked it straight into the goal keepers stomach. Then with nine minutes remaining in the first half, after a nice pass, Shaw missed again. It was not just her, other players had opportunities to score all game, but luckily they were able to score two more times in the next half.
Two minutes into the half, it was San Francisco’s turn to score as they put the ball in the net after a nice corner kick to cut the lead to one. Then a few minutes later they almost scored again, but a fully extended Kelsey Dossey stopped it.
Not much later, in the 51 minute Leubbert scored her fourth goal of the season in five games after an assist by Bethany Coons and Jessica Johnson bringing the lead back up to two.
The Tigers would not score again for awhile, but they were able to get in the box often to put pressure on the San Francisco. With 12:30 left in the second half, the Tigers were fouled inside the box setting up a penalty kick opportunity for Rachel Hignett which should put in the right side of the net.
That would be the final goal of the game after the Tigers then coasted to the end as they kept their three goal lead. Then after ninety minutes were up, the Tigers came out victorious 4-1 for their fourth win of the season.
