KCOU is deeply saddened to hear of the recent incident of racial harassment that occurred on campus. As a student-run radio station, it is our duty to speak out and denounce heinous acts such as this.
These acts of bigotry and hate should have no place on this campus. Those who experience these acts should not be trivialized by those who would claim that speaking out against oppression is “political correctness.” It is not “political correctness” when we say that systemic oppression is present on the University of Missouri campus. It is simply true. It is not “political correctness” when we say that Black Lives Matter. It is simply true.
There is a moral imperative to denounce all forms of oppression and hate; simply standing by idly makes one complicit with it.
Part of our mission as a media outlet is to foster discussion. We invite members of the Legion of Black Collegians, as well as everyone affected by this incident, to reach out to us and let your voices be heard.
