Lowry Mall is the red-bricked, quick and easy path for students to get from Jesse Hall to Memorial Union, but soon it won’t be so quick and easy. Starting on May 15, Lowry Mall will be closed and will go under construction to repair the old steam tunnels below. This project will affect the path some students take to their classes and other activities.
Freshman Krystal Wiggins said, “It sucks but it’s necessary I guess.”
Similarly, Mark McDaniel, a senior here at Mizzou, believes that it’s about time. He thinks it’s a good idea to get this infrastructure done and taken care of for the university before the new budget cuts kick in. “It’ll be a little inconvenient, but what’s thirty seconds on your walk to class?” he said.
According to The Maneater, a path will be made available for people to walk around the construction site.
The entire project is planned to be in two parts, so only half the mall will be closed at one time. The construction will start on the Hitt Street side, and is predicted to be finished this October. Then part two will commence on the Ninth Street side and won’t be finished until next Spring.
