Jamla Record’s finest (and one of the most underrated lyricists, female or male, in rap) Rapsody drops her third studio album “Laila’s Wisdom,” and showcases her artful storytelling beautifully on “Power.” Assisted by TDE’s Lance Skiiiwalker and Kendrick Lamar, Rapsody lays down her life view and disposition over an 808-heavy, classicist beat crafted by label head 9th Wonder. In a time where both contemporary “femcees” (Bodak Yellow #1!) and undisputed OGs (Remy Ma’s resurgence) are finally being lifted to the forefront of hip-hop, “Power” is an aptly titled statement on a shifting culture that is starting to do away with preconceived notions of women in the industry, with Rapsody proudly displayed as the torchbearer.
