The Tigers entered Sunday’s matinee game against Arkansas ready to extend their three- game win streak. The confidence from that win streak, which includes a win against defending National Champion South Carolina, inspired the Tigers to a dominant victory over the Razorbacks, 88-54.
Mizzou started the game off strong, with an impressive 28 first quarter points, and never let up. The Tigers never trailed, and never looked even close to vulnerable. The 51 first half points was a season high, and the total 88 points beat out the 86 that the Tigers scored against New Orleans for another season high.
With 28 points in the paint and 21 points from the bench, along with 13 baskets made from behind the arch the Tigers showed off both their physical and range play. Mizzou also showed off their efficiency with a FG% of 51.9 and a FT% of 77.8. Needless to say, a Tiger when was never in doubt. An incredible 43 rebounds for the Tigers meant that they had the ball quite a bit, and they used it well.
The Tigers had 5 players with double figures in points, with Sophie Cunningham leading the way with 22. Lauren Aldridge was 100% from the free throw line, and the Tigers were 100% dominant throughout the game. One player that may not receive the headlines but definitely deserves praise is Amber Smith. Smith, while only recording 7 points, was responsible for 11 rebounds, the most from any player on either team. Smith’s ability to win the Tigers’ possession was a big reason why Mizzou was so dominant throughout the game.
Overall the Tigers made quick work of a weak Razorback team. The Tigers will travel to Athens, Georgia next week as they try to extend their win streak from 4 to 5.
