Kyler Murray – Quarterback – Oklahoma
Week 3 vs. Iowa State: 21-29, 348 yards and 3 touchdowns
Murray, the recent MLB draft selection, has been making a name for himself all season at Oklahoma, where he has led the Sooners to an early 3-0 record. Murray was in normal form against Iowa State this weekend, as he led the Sooners to a 37-27 road win. Murray was also a force on the ground, with his longest run going for 15 yards. Murray’s best throw came in the first quarter, when he hit wide receiver Marquise Brown for a 75 yard touchdown pass that put the Sooners up 10-0. What makes Murray such an intriguing Heisman candidate is his ability to step out of the pocket and run for 10 plus yards at a time. In fact, he may be the most impactful rushing quarterback in the country thanks to his dual threat abilities.
Tua Tagovailoa – Quarterback – Alabama
Week 3 vs Ole Miss: 11-15, 191 yards and 2 touchdowns
Tagovailoa, who beat out Jalen Hurts for the starting quarterback job at Alabama, has started all three games for the Crimson Tide and not looked back. After two touchdowns against the Ole Miss Rebels, Tagovailoa is at eight touchdowns for the year. Tagovailoa did not even finish the first half for the Crimson Tide, but led the team to four first quarter touchdowns. Tagovailoa looked exceptional in his short time on the field, which was capped off by 79 yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jerry Jeudy. Similar to Murray, Tagovailoa is a force in the ground game, as he rushed for 47 yards on five attempts against the Rebels. A tough task is up ahead for Tagovailoa, as the Crimson Tide host the 22nd ranked Texas A&M Aggies, who gave Clemson a run for their money in week 2.
Dwayne Haskins – Quarterback – Ohio State
Week 3 vs. TCU: 24-38, 344 yards and 2 touchdowns
Haskins isn’t back on the list for no reason, the Ohio State quarterback exploded in the second half against the 15th ranked TCU Horned Frogs. After no offensive touchdowns in the first half for the Buckeyes, the team trailed the Horned Frogs 14-13. Haskins threw for two touchdowns in the third quarter, one being a screen pass to wide receiver Parris Campbell which broke off for 63 yards. The 24 yard touchdown pass to K.J. Hill stood out though, as Haskins threw a dime of a pass to the back shoulder of Hill who made the easy catch with the defender draped on him. Haskins also ran for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, putting the explanation on a 40-28 win. Haskins may be on the the list next week as well, as the Buckeyes face the unranked Tulane Green Wave, who are 1-2 on the season.
Justin Herbert – Quarterback – Oregon
Week 3 vs. San Jose State: 16/34, 309 yards and 3 touchdowns
Herbert is off to an impressive start this season, as he has led the Oregon Ducks to a 3-0 start and a top 25 appearance as the Ducks are ranked 20th in the country. Herbert added to is hot start against San Jose State as he looked strong despite throwing two interceptions. The heisman play came late in the second half, when Herbert dropped back to the 50 and launched a dart to wide receiver Johnny Johnson for a 39 yard touchdown pass. Herbert eventually led the Ducks to a 35-22 win. After this week Herbert’s stats are looking video game like. The junior quarterback has thrown for 840 yards and 12 touchdowns. Herbert has a big test coming in week four, as the 7th ranked Stanford Cardinals come into Eugene for a top 25 Pac-12 battle.
