The Missouri women’s soccer team opened up their home season with a scoreless draw against the Northwestern Wildcats Friday.
The Tigers and Wildcats performed well defensively despite the sloppy field conditions. Thunderstorms in the area caused the field to dampen before game time and another round of storms delayed the game in the second half for almost an hour.
Senior goalkeeper McKenzie Sauerwein earned her second shutout of the season and the 17th of her career with Mizzou. The entire back line for the Tigers played in all 110 minutes of the game, holding the Wildcats to six shots and only one shot on goal. The Tiger defense didn’t allow a single shot to Northwestern in either of the overtime periods.
Many of the offensive chances belonged to the Tigers, who registered 24 shots on the night, including six shots on goal. Sophomore defender Erin Webb led the team with seven shots, while senior midfielder Kaysie Clark turned two shots on goal, playing in all but eight minutes of the game.
The Tigers moved their season record to 2-1-2 with the draw and are now unbeaten in their last three games. Missouri will take the pitch again Sunday, Sept. 7 when they face UT Martin at 1 p.m. at Walton Stadium.
