In Champaign, Illinois’ Cinderella season took a massive hit as they got beaten by a struggling Michigan State team 23-15 at home.
Across the state in Evanston, Northwestern, with the help of some wind, went into halftime tied with #2 Ohio State 7-7, but came up short losing 21-7.
Down in Louisville, the cardinals extended their winning streak to four games behind a second half shut out winning 34-10 over James Madison.
In the SEC, Kentucky bounced back from last week’s loss with a win over Mizzou 21-17 on a controversial roughing the punter call.
Down in Tennessee, the #1 ranked volunteers got completely shut down losing to #3 Georgia 27-13. This was the least Tennessee scored all season. It was 21 points less than their previous season low when they beat Pitt 34-27.
Vanderbilt lost their fifth straight game 38-27 to South Carolina to drop the Commadores down to 3-6 and still winless in the SEC.
Arkansas lost 21-19 to 14.5 point underdog Liberty at home despite pitching a second-half shutout and nearly coming back from down 21-3.
In the Big 12, Kansas snapped their three-game losing streak after dismantling #18 Oklahoma State 37-16 to become bowl eligible for the first time since 2008.
The Cowboys in state rival had their win streak broken after they lost to Baylor 38-35 and got knocked out of the Big 12 Championship race. This is the first time Oklahoma will not be the Big 12 champion for two consecutive years for the first time since 2013-2014.
Iowa State finally got their first conference win over West Virginia 31-14 and pulled themselves out of the last place spot in the Big 12.
Over in Manhattan, Texas put themselves tied in the second-place spot in the Big 12 with Baylor after beating #13 Kansas State 34-27.
Over in the MAC, NIU got knocked out of both bowl and conference championship eligibility with a Wednesday loss to Central Michigan 35-22.
Down in the C-USA, Western Kentucky got to bowl eligibility in blowout fashion over Charlotte 59-7.
MTSU was not so lucky as they dropped their fifth game of the season to Louisiana Tech 40-24.
In the AAC, Memphis put up a tough fight against #25 UCF, but came up one score short 35-28.
Down in Tulsa, the Golden Hurricanes lost what many people dubbed “the battle of the color based water phenomena” to #19 Tulane 27-13.
