There are only two more weeks until college football is over, but the Border Eight is not losing excitement.
Starting as always in Nebraska, the Huskers got blown out on the road against No. 3 Michigan 34-3, officially knocking them out of bowl eligibility. The Huskers are the only Power Five team to not make a bowl game since 2017.
Over in Iowa, the Hawkeyes picked up a huge 24-10 win over Wisconsin.
In Illinois, Northwestern lost yet again, shocker, to Minnesota 31-3.
The No. 21 Illini lost a second straight game to Purdue 31-24. Illinois, Purdue, Iowa and Minnesota are all tied for first in the Big 10 West at 4-3 in conference play.
Over in the ACC, Louisville, despite employing an upset mentality, came up short to No. 10 Clemson 31-16.
Down in SEC country, Vanderbilt got its biggest win in years over No. 24 Kentucky 24-21. This is the Commodores’ first SEC win and first ranked win since they beat then No. 22 Mizzou in 2019.
The Volunteers also had a huge day as they blew out Mizzou 66-24, recording nine touchdowns and over 700 total yards. This is the most Tennessee has scored all season and the most points Mizzou has allowed all season.
Down in Arkansas, the Razorbacks tried their best against No. 7 LSU, but they were no match for Harold Perkins’ four sacks and two forced fumbles, and they lost 13-10.
In the Big 12, Oklahoma State fended off an upset-minded Iowa State and squeaked past the Cyclones 20-14.
On the other hand, the Sooners were not as lucky. Oklahoma fell to .500 after losing to West Virginia 23-20, marking its first ever loss in Morgantown.
Kansas State had a huge bounce back game against Baylor, winning 31-3, while its rival Jayhawks lost their fourth game in the last five to Texas Tech 43-28.
At the Group of Five level, Northern Illinois got its third win of the season and its second win over a Michigan team as it beat Western Michigan 24-21.
Border Eight teams from the C-USA went 2-0 as Western Kentucky dominated Rice University 45-10, and MTSU improved to .500 as it beat Charlotte 24-14.
In the AAC, Memphis won its Border Eight matchup versus Tulsa 26-10 to knock Tulsa out of bowl eligibility.
Finally, in the Sun Belt, Arkansas State stopped a two-point conversion to fend off UMass 35-33.
