Former Missouri quarterback Lindsey Scott Jr. led Incarnate Word to a 66-7 victory over Northwestern State Saturday, marking yet another success for Scott in a 10-win season that may turn scouts’ heads.
Scott wasn’t with Missouri long. The now 24-year-old college quarterback was a key contributor to the Tigers’ scout team in 2018 before he entered the transfer portal for a second time in his young career.
Scott started his career with LSU in 2016. There, the Zachary, Louisiana, native redshirted and never once saw the field for the Tigers in Baton Rouge, putting his name in the transfer portal after the season.
Scott went to East Mississippi Community College — the home of the hit Netflix show, Last Chance U. With the Lions, the quarterback was the best junior-college gunslinger in the state, leading his second program to an 11-1 record en route to the 2017 NJCAA national championship and the MACJC state title.
His efforts in Mississippi drew attention from Power Five programs, including Missouri. The Tigers inked Scott for the 2018 season, but as previously noted, he didn’t touch the field at Memorial Stadium, entering the portal once again.
For the 2019 season, Scott returned to his home state, landing with Nicholls State — an FCS program in Thibodaux, Louisiana. He missed the entirety of the season due to transfer rules. The 2020 FCS season was pushed to 2021, and Scott started all seven games for the Colonels.
While the starting quarterback for a program for the first time since 2017, Scott’s dual threat style was on full display, accounting for 2,241 yards of offense with an average of 320.1 yards per game.
Scott played the fall season with Nicholls State, too, before entering the transfer portal for a final time. The graduate student turned to Incarnate Word for his final year of eligibility, and it turned out to be a good move.
The Cardinals entered Saturday with a 9-1 record. Scott accounted for 3,409 passing yards and 277 yards on the ground through 10 games. With 45 touchdowns through the air and six with his legs, Scott found a groove with the Cardinals that could garner attention from professional reviewers in the coming months.
