The Missouri Tigers stayed undefeated in midweek match-ups after their five-inning shutout against Lindenwood Wednesday night at Mizzou Softball Stadium.
The Tigers’ win is credited to Cierra Harrison who threw three perfect innings before giving up one hit in the top of the fourth. She pitched five complete innings while striking out six. Harrison started the game hot, striking out her first three faced on ten pitches.
The Tigers’ offense quickly got on the board and gave Harrison some unneeded wiggle room, scoring five runs in the first inning. It all started with a lead-off double from Jenna Laird who went 2-3 this contest, followed by an RBI triple from Alex Honnold (2-3). A SAC-Fly by Kara Daly scored Honnold. The bat baton then passed to Maddie Gallagher (1-2) who hit a double to score Chantice Phillips who reached on a hit-by-pitch. Riley Frizell rounded off the inning with a 2-run homer, her fourth of the season.
Missouri consistently added on runs throughout the remainder of the game, but not to the extent of the first inning. In the following inning, Peyton Jackson (1-2) led off with a single and later scored by a double from Julia Crenshaw.
Moving into the third, Megan Moll (1-2) collected her first home run of the season on a two-run blast to right field.
Alex Honnold then led off the bottom of the fourth with a triple, followed by a SAC-Fly by Julia Crenshaw.
The game ended prematurely due to the run rule effect (Missouri led 9-0 in the fifth inning). Missouri’s offensive powerhouse is driven by all 9 as the Tigers hit .500 as a team and set a season-high for most extra-base hits in a game.
After winning the first game in a three-game series, Missouri faces Ole Miss again tomorrow at 3 p.m.
