Missouri soccer suffered a 1-0 defeat to No. 7 Arkansas, marking their second home loss, and their third conference loss of the season.
While the first few minutes was a feeling out process between the two teams, the Razorbacks didn’t take long to earn a serious goalscoring opportunity, after a cross from senior forward Kiley Dulaney hit the hand of Missouri defender Mia Yang.
Senior forward Ava Tankersley stepped up to the penalty spot and converted the penalty, putting Arkansas up 1-0 with less than fifteen minutes into the first half.
The constant attacking pressure continued from Arkansas, tallying up five more shots before the end of the first half. Mizzou’s only shot of the first period, and only shot on target for the whole match came from senior forward Jenna Bartels, who was denied in the bottom right corner by freshman goalkeeper Phoebe Carver.
The Missouri redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Bella Hollenbach had more of a busy first period with six saves to her name, marking the fifth time she has kept a clean sheet inside the first 45 minutes of the match.
The physicality from the first half between the teams continued into the second, with both teams totalling 29 fouls by the end of the game. Arkansas’s head coach Colby Hale also received a yellow card for dissent in the second half.
The second half of the match saw more of an output in shots for the Tigers with six attempted, but only one hit the target from Leah Selm.
Missouri’s loss tonight is their third loss in a row, and also marks its third one goal loss of the season. Their record now sits at 5-4-2, and 1-3 in SEC play. The Tigers will look to bounce back against Ole Miss on the road next Thursday.
